It means that thinking deeply or guessing which are needed on the way of creating or designing. Speculating the past shapes the future and gives the new ways of design. It is a by-product of speculation to have new materials and to have further developed designs or ideas. From the entire process of design, speculation comes first because it is necessary to fully and correctly understand the purpose of clients or the main concept. "Since the dawn of human symbolic thinking, architecture not only has provided utilitarian shelter but also has silently expressed how humans view themselves...(Roth, 519)."

Compose
In the field of architectural design, compose or composition is a necessary element to unify each elements to create a whole. Compose could be considered as the final step of a procedure of designing. All design has composition and need to be well-composed to maximize and fulfill commodity, firmness, and delight. "Together let us desire, conceive, and create the new structure of the future, which will embrace architecture and sculpture and painting in one unity...(Roth, 523)."
